I am by no means an expert on WordPress, the design I chose is because it was a stock design provided by WordPress and I liked the look and feel of it compared to some of their other stock designs. I did customize the coloring once I selected the design but that was as far as I took it. If there was an aspect of WordPress I didn’t utilize it’s mainly because I probably don’t know it exists. One thing I did want to do but couldn’t figure out was to create drop downs in the header. I really wanted my PLP to be a drop down with a list of documents showcasing the professional writing I did throughout the semester, but I settled for a page with links inside of it instead.
I chose my site design based on what I felt was most user friendly and appealing to the eye. I chose a basic header photo that I felt fit the portfolio. I selected to have my pages listed as links under the name of my site so that they were easy to find. I created a new page that was specifically for blog posts so that the user could click on that page to see all blog posts. I chose for all blog posts to show as tiles that contained the blog title and the first few lines of the blog, I felt that by showing the first few lines I am giving the reader a quick view and feel for the context of the blog post. I also chose neutral colors for the site. A dark grey, deep teal and white. I feel the design is simple yet appealing.
I believe the design is working well for me. I find my site easier to navigate than it was previous to the redesign and it is definitely more appealing to the eye in addition to having a more professional feel.
