  • Audience- An Audience is the person for whom a writer writes. The writer selects the content and tone that will reflect well or be well received with their audience. In the terms of writing an audience refers to the intended readers of what is being written.
  • Genre- Genre is a reference to the style of expressing oneself or the style in which something is written. For example, poetry and romance are both genres of writing.
  • Purpose- Purpose is the goal or aim of a piece of writing.  For example is the goal to express oneself, to provide information, to persuade, or to create a literary work.
  • Rhetorical Situation- Any written sentence that is more of a statement, which does not need any reply or feedback, is rhetoric. A rhetorical situation arises from the need to persuade or provide emphasis, or striking a thought-provoking idea that would motivate or inspire.
  • Discourse Community- A discourse community is a group of people who share a set of basic values and assumptions, and ways of communicating about those goals. Linguist John Swales defined discourse communities as “groups that have goals or purposes, and use communication to achieve these goals”
  • Knowledge- Facts and information acquired through experience or education
  • Reflection- Reflective writing is writing that is composed about a subject after it has been presented in literature or other media. Reflective writing uses emotions, memories or thoughts that the presented literature provokes.
